Ian de Lange

Director (Managing)
(Chartered Accountant – B Com (Hons), B.Compt (Hons), CA (SA))

Co-founder Ian de Lange is a Chartered Accountant, passing the Board exam in 1992. He obtained an honours degree at Unisa and a further B Com honours in financial and portfolio management from UCT in 2001.

He became actively involved in the financial markets in the late 1990’s when he joined Sharenet as director and shareholder. During this time he gained valuable investment advisory experience, starting and still editing daily and regular newsletters on the local market and investment planning. This led to the formation of Exsequor Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd as independent investment advisor to high net worth clients in 2002, now known as Seed Investment Consultants (Pty) Ltd. With Seed’s expansion to also include investment management, Ian is responsible for the active management of client portfolios.

He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in South Africa, an Associate of the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa and a member of the Investment Analysts Society of South Africa.

Vincent Heys

Director
(Actuary – B.Com (Hons), F.I.A., F.A.S.S.A.)

Co-founder Vincent Heys is a qualified Actuary and has over 12 years of financial services and investment experience.

He started his career at Sanlam in 1996 and moved to the UK in 1999. Shortly after his return to SA in 2002 Vincent co-managed one of the first institutional fund of hedge funds in South Africa while being employed at Novare. During this time he was also involved in creating and implementing investment strategies for some the country’s largest pension funds with the likes of Soweto Pension Fund, SALGA Pension fund and AST-Gijima Pension Fund.

It was during 2006/7 that Vincent and Ian started what is today Seed Investment Consultants. Vincent is responsible for product development and formalising investment strategies for individuals.

He is a member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA), Institute of Actuaries in the UK and member of the Investment Committee of ASSA.

Sean Farrell

Director
(Chartered Accountant - CA(SA))

On 1 September 2011, Sean was appointed a director of Seed investments. He is a qualified chartered accountant with over 14 years experience in the financial services industry.

He began his career at Deloitte in Johannesburg in 1991. Post articles he worked with Deloitte in the UK for 4 months before returning to take up a position as project accountant in the corporate finance team of Automakers – the local manufacturer and distributor of Nissan and Fiat motor vehicles. He spent 3 years with Automakers with his last being head of treasury. This is where his interest in the financial services industry began.

In 1998 Sean joined Origin – a division of Rand Merchant Bank Limited. Origin pioneered debt consolidation in the South Africa market and very successfully evolved and grew to eventually become RMB Private Bank in March 2003. Sean was the Chief Financial Officer of Origin and then RMB Private bank as well as FirstRand’s Wealth segment until December 2006. In January 2007 he took over as Chief Executive Officer of RMB Private Bank and successfully led the team through the global financial crisis culminating in Euromoney’s “Top Private Bank in South Africa for 2010” award. In January 2011 after 4 years at the helm and over 12 years with the FirstRand group, he decided to move with his family to the Cape and explore other opportunities.

Mike Browne

Portfolio Manager
(CFA Charterholder – BBusSc (Finance), CFA)

Portfolio Manager Mike Browne is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charter holder with over 5 years of experience in the investment industry. He graduated from UCT with a BBusSc honours degree at the end of 2004, and started with Exsequor Investments (Seed’s forerunner) shortly thereafter. While working at Seed, Mike successfully passed all three CFA exams, and was awarded his Charter in early 2010.

Mike has actively followed the markets and economy since enrolling at university. This pursuit was formalised when he graduated and started work. He was appointed to the Investment Committee as an Investment Analyst at Seed in March 2007, providing input into the investment decision making process. As of March 2010 Mike was promoted to Portfolio Manager of selected investment portfolios.

Mike spends a large portion of his time researching current market valuations, meeting fund managers, and analysing investment portfolios.

Nico Wegner

Wealth Manager
(B.Econ (Stell))

Nico Wegner has 17 years experience in advising clients on investing in Financial Markets.

He has spent the last 6 years as the Chief Investment Officer of the Hereford Group, and spent time creating and implementing investment strategies for the Group.

He holds a B Com in Economy from the University of Stellenbosch, and also completed his post graduate CFP at the University of the Free State.

Barry Hugo

Wealth Manager
(CA(SA), CFP)

Barry Hugo is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Certified Financial Planner and has 18 years’ experience in financial services and investments.

He started his career with Profplan Brokers, an independent boutique brokerage in Zululand with the three focus areas of financial planning for individuals, investments and consulting on retirement funds. In 2007 he left Profplan - where he was now the Managing Partner and Senior Shareholder - to join RMB Private Bank as a Wealth Manager. Here he gained extensive experience in the structure and implementation both locally and internationally of wealth management solutions for high net worth individuals.

In October 2011 Barry joined the Hereford Group to launch their Wealth Management Division and also became a member of the Seed Investment Committee.

Zoran Sokolovski

Wealth Manager

Zoran Sokolovski has 10 years experience in financial services and investments.

He started his career with Hereford financial services in 2001, where he became one of the top consultants in Hereford and Liberty Life’s Franchise division. He has spent the last two years as the Franchise Principal for Hereford financial services in Johannesburg.

Zoran specialises in investments, retirement funds, wealth management solutions for high net worth individuals and financial life planning.

He is currently studying for his postgraduate CFP degree, and joined the Seed Investment Committee in October 2011.

Gerbrandt Kruger

Risk Manager
(Bachelors in Science – Actuarial and Financial Mathematics)

Gerbrandt started his professional career with Seed in 2008. He graduated from University of Pretoria with a BSc degree at the end of 2007. Gerbrandt is currently busy writing his actuarial exams. He has experience in Financial modelling, Finance and Financial Reporting, Probability and Mathematical Statistics.

Gerbrandt has always been passionate about investments and economics. He spends the majority of his time developing software systems for the team.

Lourens Rabe

Lourens started his professional career with Seed in 2012. He graduated from University of Stellenbosch with a B.Com (Law) degree at the end of 2009 and a further study in B.Com (Investment Management) in 2011. Lourens is currently studying towards his CFA exams. He assists in risk management and implementing clients’ investment portfolios.

Myrna Colllins

Administration

Myrna has joined Seed in November 2010 and takes care of Seed’s existing clients. She is responsible for all administration requirements and ensures the smooth running of Seed’s business. Myrna has previously worked in the publishing field, and enjoys the challenge of adapting to a new environment. Myrna loves the interaction with clients and will assist wherever possible.
