JOB DESCRIPTION

The Seed Group of Companies is a dynamic and fast growing financial services company based in Cape Town. We are seeking an energetic and ambitious individual who is interested in furthering their career in an entrepreneurial environment with an experienced management team.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Managing the Finance, Operational, Business Risk, Regulatory Compliance and various Administrative aspects of the Seed Group of Companies
  • Managing and developing the Finance and Compliance personnel within the Seed Group of Companies
  • Daily engagement with the directors of all the Companies within the Seed Group
I. Financial Management 

  • Manage, develop and take responsibility for the finance team
  • Detailed monthly management reports for each of the companies in the group. These are discussed with the directors monthly and must include the following:
    • Capital adequacy calculations
    • Actuals vs Budget income statement and balance sheet
    • Cashflow analysis
    • Monthly reconciliations
    • Analysis of the profitability per fund / investment solution/ client, etc.
  • Other monthly tasks would include, but not limited to:
    • Checking invoices due for payment, loading invoices on the bank and sending out payments for authorisation
    • Checking and facilitating intercompany transactions
    • Weekly cash flow updates of all companies
    • Debit order transactions, including legal requirements and set up new accounts with suppliers
    • Checking and loading monthly BIAS payments to brokers
    • Handle and arrange any foreign payments and receipts
    • Commission and referral fee accounting, analysis and reporting
    • Fund flow accounting, reporting and analysis
    • Management and performance fee calculations
  • Prepare annual company budgets in advance of each fiscal year, which are used extensively for decision-making
  • Liaising with auditors, preparation of audit pack and handling audit queries
  • Quarterly board meeting preparation for all companies
  • Compliance with relevant tax legislation – including tax & VAT returns and responsible for all regulatory filings (SARS)
  • Overseeing and ensuring adequate financial controls
  • Managing all correspondence with the bank, as the main contact person of all companies
  • Negotiate terms of business with various suppliers and vendors
II. Operational Oversight 

  • Reconciliation of income to fee agreements
  • Profitability per investment produce lines
  • Management of legal agreements and key terms
III. Business Risk and Regulatory Compliance

  • Manage, develop and take responsibility for the compliance personnel
  • Primary point of contact with the outsourced Compliance Officer/s
  • Handling monthly compliance meetings for all companies regulated by the FSB
  • Identifying and mitigating other risks facing the group
  • Responsible for the submission of the FSB levies, bi-annual reports, etc.
  • Custodian of business policies & procedures
  • B-BEEE annual renewal
  • Annual renewal and revaluation of all the company’s short-term insurance policies, PI cover and D&O insurance cover
IV. Statutory and Secretarial Administration 

  • Quarterly board meeting preparation for all companies
  • Taking of minutes at all board meetings
  • Arrange yearly AGM’s for each company
  • Taking minutes at all AGM’s
  • Handle all share transactions, registrations and any changes relating to any company shareholding in conjunction with our company secretary
V. HR and Recruitment 

  • Oversee payroll & ensure confidentiality
  • Check monthly payroll and load payments to employees
  • Employment contracts
  • Ensure bi-annual appraisals are done and documented for all staff
COMPETENCIES

  • Degree in Accounting or related field
  • A strong background in the Investment Industry would be preferable
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of Excel
  • Must have a “can do” attitude, and willingness to work in a dynamic environment
  • Must be a self-starter with initiative who can drive projects to completion with minimal guidance
  • Must accept and manage responsibilities and have excellent communication and people management skills
  • Must have strong business acumen and ability to work as a team member
  • Must have high levels of energy, drive, optimism and creativity and a keen eye for detail
